I did some research on water testing kits. This is the most affordable option I found.

SimpleTek: I was only able to get a hold of the nice people at Simpltek who said their water testing kits were suitable to test any water (rain and river included) for potability. Their product, however, is much more expensive at around $20.00 per test.
