design ideas

Following the idea of the banana leaf, formed by many bottles which connect to a system of ¨branches¨, these branches can get connected together, generating a flexible surface for water capture.

The result is a system formed by the flexible surfaces (capturing surfaces, which can be given interesting geometries) and the branches (used for water circulation and filtration, and designed to rigidify the structure).

We could design the circulation system, the branches, in itself, and define different hierarchies (such as circulation of clean water, of water for watering plants, of water for electricity, etc..., going through different ¨branches¨).

We could even identify the circulation system by using different color bottles, or coloring them.

The flexible surfaces are used to capture the rainwater from above, but ideally capture humidity or mist water below (since we are in a humid, more than rainy environment)

Under the whole structure, we can design a whole topography, for people to sit, lie down, gather... and also for planting, creating ¨green areas¨under our flower.

Here are a few references on how the beauty of the design can come from the design of the structure, and from the strength and coherence of the system.

  1. olimpia, i really love the branching idea. the sketch is quite beautiful. i quickly begin to understand the construction of the system. i also see great potential for human interaction. The user is not looking upon a field but is herself within the field. nice!
