Bromeliads

Along the lines of gerrell's pitcher plant, the bromeliads are also well-known for their ability to collect rainwater. Some rainforest creatures live their whole lives in the tiny "ponds" of bromeliads...


To me, this last botanical illustration suggests a structure where the leaves are used for balance, vertical support and water collection, while the red flower might hold the various stages of the filtration process.
